IWL Wiesel - Der Deutsche Strassen Verkehr 1956

The first photos of new motor scooter from the Industrialwerkes of Ludwigsfeld

Keeping a secret is not so easy, but until now you could hardly find out anything about this new production. Today we are in the fortunate position of being able to show our readers the first detailed photos of the "Weasel", as the new scooter should be called. We don't want to write too much about the "Weasel" right now. The IWL has promised us a test scooter for the near future, then we will share our impressions and experiences with you.

We learned all sorts of things in Ludwigsfelde and with a clear conscience it can be stated that the new scooter has a number of innovative components (in comparison to the "Pitty" which has since been discontinued), which give us reason to expect that roadholding and functional reliability will be further improved. The tried and tested 125cm scooter motor from the Zschopau motorcycle factory is used. The covered rear section, photographed from the right and left, shows that the entire rear wheel suspension has been changed. The rear swing arm rotates on a torsion bar and its upper arm is connected to a rubber spring element for vibration damping.

The battery, ignition coil and controller have found a new place. The accommodation of the tools in a box-like insert also seems to us to be quite clever. If you take out this toolbox, you can easily get to the spark plug.

To write much more about the new scooter "Weasel" would be premature. Just one more thing – in converting the "Pitty" to the "Weasel", it has undergone a successful slimming cure and is about 30 kg lighter in its new design. We can't name the selling price yet, however, we believe that the "Weasel" will be available for about 2400-DM and the sun of this year's summer will still shine on it.
