1961 DKW Junior DeLuxe - Dutch Brochure
The DKW Junior De Luxe, an upgraded version of the DKW Junior with an uprated engine and better features, introduced a new technical development - the Lubrimat oil injection system. The Lubrimat was intended to replace the 'troublesome' process of mixing oil in the petrol tank by injecting the required amount of oil directly into the carburettor. It sounded simple but proved to be a problematic device and with an especially cold winter in 1962, oil in the lubrimat solidified and engines blew up. It was a near fatal blow to Auto Union's fortunes, which were waning at this time.
