In 1964 the VEB DKK Scharfenstein plant celebrated the production of 100,000 refridgerators and published a 60 page booklet covering the company's history. As might be gleaned from the DKK acronym, the company was once part of the JS Rasmussen empire, building motorcycle fittings, bicycles and refridgerators which were sold through the DKW dealerships. With the foundation of Auto-Union in 1932, DKK remained under JS Rasmussen's control but continued its close association with DKW. After the war the plant was nationalised but continued on as a refridgerator manufacturer. Scharfenstein is only a short distance from the DKW plant at Zschopau, occupying a sharp bend on the same river.
