The versatile DKW 600cc twin cylinder engine used in the budget Reichklasse cars was also adapted for other uses, such as here as a motor boat engine. They were also used as stationary and industrial use.
DKW had been building specialist boat motors since the late 1920s, but by the time the company was incorporated into Auto-Union, stationary and multi-use engines had been standardized somewhat.
