In 1951 Auto Union introduced the luxury model of their new DKW F89P Meisterklasse, the Luxus Coupe. The Luxus Coupe was bodied by the Hebmuller Karosserie. These high-priced, luxury cars sold in very small numbers for a very short time before the Hebmuller factory was destroyed in a fire in 1952. Subsequently, Karmann Karosserie took over manufacture of the two-door coupes and cabriolets, along with the four door cabriolets they had been building since 1951. The two-door models were never particularly popular.
