DKW 3-6 dodgy petrol pump fix

In several earlier posts I've covered various tricks and fixes for fuel pump issues with my DKW 3=6. The pneumatic fuel pump used by DKW is something of a weak point in the car, which, as they get older tends to become less and less effective. The membranes wear out, harden up or the springs break, which can make the car harder and harder to start, especially if not driven regularly. To "simplify things" I installed simple squeeze bulb between the carburetor and fuel pump. I quick squeeze of the bulb before starting will tell you whether there is fuel in the line, or has flowed back down towards the tank. If the line is clear, a quick squeeze or two is sufficient to refill the line before cranking.

However, the bulbs themselves often wear out quickly. I find they last only a year or two so keep a stock on hand. This one (above) is leaking. Fortunately it's a very quick replacement job.

And while the grill is off, let's check the fuel filter. Hmm, some black residue there!

It's not a lot, but it can make for uneven running and carburetor problems.

That's enough to block a carburetor jet.
Two squeezes is enough and we're primed and ready to go!
