1949 IFA F8 Kombi van

DKW introduced a lieferwagen version of the DKW F7 in 1937. The rear body was constructed of marine ply and covered with leatherette for weather proofing.

IFA introduced a delivery wagon version of the F8 in 1949. Construction was simplified by abandoning the gently curved plywood paneling with a slab sided wooden cab. As the lieferwagen had never been a popular seller, IFA opted not to build a dedicated commercial van but made it a multi-use 'kombi' wagon, with fold down seats. This made the vehicle more versatile. See here for a contemporary review of the IFA F8 kombi. https://dkwautounionproject.blogspot.com/2023/07/1954-review-of-ifa-kombiwagens.html

In West Germany DKW built a wooden bodied kombi and panel sided 'city delivery van' on the F89P platform. Both models proved to be poor sellers but remained available until 1955. Only 182 were built during the life of the model. https://dkwautounionproject.blogspot.com/2021/01/dkw-f89s-stadlieferwagen-auto-unions.html
