1954 IFA F9 English Brochure

IFA exported the F9 across Europe to bring in much needed foreign currency. Non-Eastern Bloc sales primarily went to Scandinavia, with Finland being a significant market. A small number were marketed to Britain where they competed directly with DKW. Cold War animosity impacted on sales until, DKW stopped manufacturing two-strokes in 1965, thus reopening a market opportunity for East Germany's cheap two-stoke cars, such as the Wartburg 313 and later 353.

Australian vehicle registration records show that at least one 1955 IFA F9 was road registered in Australia.
