The DKW Schnellaster provided a flexible platform upon which a variety of bodies could be fitted. Initially DKW did not have sufficient steel presses to manufacture the various bodies so outsourced production to specialist bodyshops. DKW used this mechanism to offer customized DKWs for the fire and ambulance services. These proved to be rather popular variants.
